The consortium also has an experimental animal platform at its disposal. Dr. T. Bayer’s group can boast a longstanding expertise in the analysis of trangenetic mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease. Mouse models are available with varying degrees of disease severity and these are examined with state-of-the-art techniques. Mouse models are phenotyped not only by analysis of the characteristic neuropathological alterations and loss of synapses and nerve cells but also by data from behavioral tests. Dr. Bayer has made himself available to the members of the consortium in the function of collaboration partner and advisor.
